The role:
The overall purpose of the role is to act as a principal strategy and policy adviser for a designated sector, in order to: contribute to and inform the development of the company's national and sector/regional strategies, contribute to and inform policy developments at national, regional and sectoral level and co-ordinate strategy and policy drafting and development as directed.
Main responsibilities include:
·To develop and maintain an extensive and up to date knowledge and understanding of the relevant policies and strategies covering or affecting designated sectors in England.
·To disseminate and share information about both internal and external strategies and policies
·To interpret national policy and maintain credible contacts with external policy makers and networks, and to act as a first point of contact or referral for external agencies and partners in respect of policy responses and/or inputs.
·To formulate and draft responses to consultation documents from government and other organisations.
·To advise the company on policy direction and produce relevant papers for the Leadership Team and other teams and for wider publication.
·To identify and promote innovative policy proposals and solutions including funding packages and developing initial funding proposals.
·To communicate with other parts of the company including formal governance and management panels and boards, to share information and knowledge about strategies and policy in England, including preparation of relevant reports and progression of action points at country level as necessary.
Who we're looking for:
·Knowledge, understanding and experience of current government structures and initiatives in education and employment in the lifelong learning sector in England
·Experience of working in partnership with employers, partners and stakeholders in the lifelong learning sector
·Experience of strategy or policy development
·Experience of drafting and writing contributions to strategies, policy consultations, business plans and other written documents
·Experience of developing potential project ideas and writing funding bids
·Ability to manage relationships with colleagues both internally and externally in a range of settings
·Ability to prepare written reports that are clear, concise and accurate
·Ability to work confidently and independently on own initiative and to manage and prioritise a demanding workload
·Excellent diplomatic and interpersonal skills
·Proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office suite
·Willingness and capacity to travel when necessary

Salary/location/hours:
The role will be based in Leeds City centre. The salary is £30,000 and the hours are full time, 37.5 per week.
