Responsible for the testing and documentation of finished goods passing through the finishing stages of production prior to despatch to customers.
Has the authority to quarantine any products deemed not to achieve specification values, and refer to higher management.
GCSE passes, or equivalent, in Maths, English and Sciences – desirable.
Previous experience of working in quality control is desirable, particularly in a manufacturing environment.
Computer literacy – essential; knowledge of Pc systems - advantageous.
Language skills – ability to read and communicate effectively, but not necessarily extensively, at all levels. Ability to write legibly.
Mathematical skills – ability to understand and perform basic mathematical functions.
Reasoning ability – ability to apply principles of logical and rational reasoning in the required areas of his/her responsibility.
Ensuring that products are tested and relevant documentation is raised to allow quick and effective release to facilitate on-time deliveries.
To alert site management to problems and potential difficulties in achieving the required quality standards and delivery targets.
Identification of products and recognition of individual customer’s requirements.
Understanding of acceptable quality standards.
Ability to relate actual values to published, and understand variances.
Understanding of Data Sheets/Product Definitions.
Ability to read simple/basic drawings/sketches.
Ability to read a tape measure and calipers accurately.
Capable of perceiving problems as they develop and communicate such to relevant individuals.
Ability to compose/compile a spreadsheet with data/values, and other documentation.
Generation of Test Reports/Certificates of Conformity.
Willingness to cover (sickness/holidays) for the Raw Materials/Pre-kiln Quality Inspector if required. This will involve learning all elements of his/her job.
Knowledge of Quality Manuals.
Knowledge of quality sytem procedures.
Ability to be organised and maintain records.
Close liason with Team Leader – Despatch to ensure smooth running of department.
Ability to check forehearth layouts.
Propose improvements when/if necessary.
Willingness to attend training/improvement courses as deemed necessary.
