To underwrite business within the Fleet division with the aim to develop business opportunities within the UK general commercial insurance markets through both wholesale and retail brokers, with specialised risks being referred back to London.

Budget and Headcount Information:
• To ensure that the business plan is maintained in line with the Key Performance Indicators as established by the Underwriting Committee.
• To prepare data for inclusion in the company report and accounts.
• To carryout Client Audits ensuring always that changes implemented are maintained.
• Monitor the capacity ensuring that appropriate business is being written.
Principal Accountabilities:
• To assess client needs and offer bespoke solutions.
• To effectively cross sell other products
• To negotiate the most cost effective rate for the client.
• To price risk in accordance with the business plan.
• To produce plans which distinguish between immediate and long-term priorities.
• To produce plans which specify clear team objectives.
• To co-ordinate the activities of the team in line with business plans.
• To identify, establish and maintain effective working relationships within the business and local market area.
• To identify and target prospective new clients within the area through analysis and networking.
• To support the Regional Manager in preparation of the Business Plan as required.
• To undertake analysis of local market, identifying trends, projections and budgets.
• To Understand and ensure that the strategy is fully supported within the Underwriter Role.
• Underwrite insurance and re-insurance risks in accordance with the approved business plan.
• To participate in discussions on risks written by other areas of the division.
• To set and monitor internal task deadlines.
• To produce procedure guides for the team to use.
• Ensure that all risks are written within regulatory guidelines.
Decision Making Responsibilities:
• To undertake and submit performance reviews for the team within the timescale agreed with Human Resources.
• In liaison with the Regional Manager, ensure that the development and training needs of the team are identified and met.
• To be responsible for the appropriate recording of risk, premiums, claims exposures and aggregates so as to enable timely reporting of all relevant information to the board and regulatory bodies. All actions to be executed within agreed underwriting authority limits.
Education, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
• Good overall standard of education.
• Qualified in ACII or equivalent industry specific professional qualifications.
• Thorough working knowledge of local market, Brit Insurance specific and compliance procedures & regulations.
• Thorough knowledge of class of business.
• Effective negotiation, persuasion and influencing skills.
• Sound problem solving skills.
• Good analytical and numeric skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Extensive Insurance experience, gained within general, commercial insurance.
• Solid Underwriting and technical experience on relevant class of business.
• Experience of establishing and maintaining effective working relationships within the local market.
• Experience of producing reports, analysis and communicating results and recommendations to senior level.
