To assist in providing a comprehensive Occupational Health Service to all NEXT distribution areas.
To work as part of a multidisciplinary team to minimise risk to staff health and offer advice on Management of health to Employees and their Managers, ensuring compliance with Health and Safety legislation and medical guidelines.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Sickness Absence Management
To provided a service for referrals concerning management of long term sickness absence specific to the needs of the business.
Responsible for maintaining own caseload, which requires assessment of physical and mental health in relation to the workplace.
Make recommendations for Return to work programmes, identifying individual health needs.
To provide comprehensive, actionable and timely reports on the fitness of the individual, based on evidence based practice and maintaining confidentiality.
Pre Employment Screening
To advise HR / Managers on the fitness of the individual prior to employment, using appropriate screening methods.
To advise HR on the Disability Discrimination Act’s relevance at pre-employment stage to ensure statutory legislative requirements are met.
To liaise with external agencies to ensure the needs of the individual and company are met.
Workplace Assessments
To be aware of and to advise on legislative requirements within the workplace
To undertake workplace visits to identify factors which may impact on the health of the individual and feedback on findings as appropriate
Health Surveillance & Health Promotion
To identify and deliver Health Surveillance, training and Health Promotion programmes based on epidemiological evidence to promote Occupational Health and Safety.
General
To be involved in developing evidence based procedures / protocols for the Occupational Health department that supports the business objectives.
To detect significant health hazards and assist managers and employees to correct the hazard before injury or ill health occurs.
To liaise with external agencies following accidents at work to ensure optimum treatment programmes are available.
To advise Managers and HR on current legislation in relation to health and employment
To liaise and communicate with GP’s and health professionals to promote NEXT’s commitment to health at work.
To work alongside and support HR and the H&S team to promote good practice and reduce the incidences of work related ill health.
To liaise with external service provider to develop a pro-active Occupational Health service and promote a healthier workplace.
Professional
To Maintain own NMC registration and work within the code of Professional Conduct
To comply with company policies, targets and guidelines.
To work in an ethical and professional manner.

Essential Skills
Registered General Nurse with Occupational Health qualification (preferably OH Degree)
Experience of working within industry ideally a distribution or retail environment.
Ability to plan and prioritise workloads within the local policy timescales.
Ability to make decision within timescales.
Good oral and written communication skills across each level of the organisation.
Strong Interpersonal Skills
Organised and accurate with attention to detail
Practical Hands on approach
Flexible working hours
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word/ Excel/ PowerPoint.
Full Driving Licence.
Desirable Skills
